2026 lohud Elite 11 girls soccer watch list features more than 100 – Lohud

The 2026 lohud Elite 11 girls soccer watch list has expanded to include 112 players, marking a significant step forward for the region’s talent pipeline. This year’s list reflects the growing depth and competition within New York’s high school girls soccer landscape, with scouts and coaches already eyeing standout performers for future college recruitment and national team consideration. The expansion comes as programs like Pleasantville, Yorktown, Somers, and Ossining continue to produce Division I-level talent, with recent graduates such as Pleasantville’s Emma Reynolds (now at Wake Forest) and Yorktown’s Sofia Martinez (now at Duke) already making impacts at Power Five programs.

Why the expanded watch list matters now

The expansion from a traditional top-11 format to 112 players signals a shift in how elite prospects are identified and developed. Previously, the Elite 11 served as a narrow snapshot of the region’s best talent, but the new structure broadens the scope to capture rising stars who may have flown under the radar. This change comes as New York continues to produce Division I-level talent, with several recent graduates already making impacts at Power Five programs. The initiative also aligns with the increasing emphasis on youth development within U.S. Soccer’s Girls Development Academy and ECNL circuits, where early identification can shape long-term pathways. By casting a wider net, lohud’s expanded list ensures that no standout player is overlooked, whether they hail from a powerhouse program like FC Westchester or a smaller school like Peekskill with a hidden gem.

The watch list now includes standout performers such as Somers’ Ava Thompson, a midfielder committed to the University of Virginia, and Mahopac’s Leah Chen, a forward who led her club team to a GA Cup semifinal. The inclusion of these players underscores the list’s role in bridging high school and club soccer, where scouts evaluate talent across multiple platforms. Programs like Beachside SC and Players Development Academy have become key pipelines, with several listed players competing in ECNL or GA for these top regional clubs.

What comes next for listed players

Players on the watch list will now be monitored through the fall season, with performances in league play, state tournaments, and showcase events determining who earns final recognition. The lohud Elite 11 traditionally announces its final selections in late November, providing a platform for top performers to gain exposure to college coaches and national scouts. For many on the list, the next 12 months will be pivotal. Highlighting a player on this watch list often serves as a springboard to invitations to regional and national identification camps, including U.S. Soccer’s Youth National Teams programs. Last year, three players from the Elite 11—Yorktown’s Martinez, Somers’ Thompson, and Ossining’s Isabella Rossi—went on to represent the U-17 or U-19 youth national teams, underscoring the list’s role as a talent conveyor belt.

The expanded format also increases opportunities for developmental feedback. The lohud team plans to publish periodic updates on player progress, offering insights into strengths such as Yorktown goalkeeper Claire O’Connor’s reflex saves and areas for improvement ahead of the final selections. This transparency benefits players, parents, and coaches navigating the increasingly complex recruitment landscape, where early evaluations can determine college scholarship opportunities and national team pathways.

How the watch list reflects broader trends

The growth of the Elite 11 mirrors the rising competitiveness of girls soccer in the Northeast. Programs like Pleasantville, Yorktown, and Somers have become consistent pipelines for college recruitment, while smaller schools in Westchester and Rockland counties are producing more Division III and NAIA prospects than ever before. This year’s watch list also reflects the influence of club soccer, with many listed players competing in ECNL or GA for top regional clubs like FC Westchester, Players Development Academy, and Beachside SC. The crossover between high school and club seasons means scouts are now evaluating players across multiple platforms, making the lohud list a critical early indicator of future standouts.

As the fall season approaches, coaches and recruiters will be watching closely. The expanded watch list isn’t just a roster—it’s a roadmap to the next generation of New York’s soccer talent. With 112 players now under the microscope, the lohud Elite 11 is poised to reshape how the region’s top prospects are identified, developed, and ultimately recognized on the national stage.

The 2026 lohud Elite 11 girls soccer watch list isn’t just a list. It’s a commitment to seeing the full picture of New York’s soccer talent. By widening the net to 112 players, lohud is ensuring that every standout performer—from powerhouse programs to under-the-radar schools—gets a fair shot at the next level, whether that’s college recruitment, national team pathways, or simply the chance to be seen. The fall season will tell the story, but the foundation has already been laid for a new era of talent identification in the Northeast.
