How to watch Aston Villa vs Bayern Munich – TV channel, live stream and kick-off time

Aston Villa face Bayern Munich in a high-profile pre-season friendly in Hong Kong on Friday, a fixture that carries added significance as the Premier League side look to test themselves against the reigning Bundesliga champions. The match kicks off at 8pm local time (1pm BST) at the newly built Kai Tak Stadium, with Villa aiming to build momentum ahead of the new campaign.

Where and when to watch

For supporters in the United Kingdom, the game will be available via VillaTV, Aston Villa’s official streaming service. Access requires an active subscription or a one-off pre-season match pass, both purchasable through the club’s official website. While dedicated national radio coverage is unlikely for an overseas friendly, live audio commentary is typically integrated into the VillaTV platform, with periodic updates also expected on BBC Radio WM.

Villa’s recent record against Bayern

This fixture is more than just a warm-up; it carries historical weight. Aston Villa have never lost to Bayern Munich in competitive football, holding a perfect record that includes a 1-0 victory in the 1982 European Cup final. Their most recent meeting came in October 2024, when a 78th-minute Jhon Durán strike secured another 1-0 win for Villa in the UEFA Champions League. The Bavarians, however, arrive in Hong Kong as Bundesliga champions and will be keen to avenge that defeat.

Ezri Konsa’s future hangs in the balance

Off the pitch, Aston Villa are navigating a turbulent transfer window. Reports suggest that Arsenal are targeting defender Ezri Konsa in a £60m deal, with Villa stars reportedly resigned to his departure before the window closes. The Gunners are looking to bolster their backline following injuries to William Saliba and ongoing concerns over Jurrien Timber and Ben White. Villa, meanwhile, have already seen Morgan Rogers join Chelsea for an undisclosed fee and Youri Tielemans move to Manchester United, though they are under no financial pressure to sell. Konsa, who has two years left on his contract, remains a key figure for Villa, and his potential exit could reshape their defensive plans for the season.

Arsenal’s pursuit of Konsa comes amid their ongoing attempts to secure alternative targets after missing out on Vinícius Júnior, who is set to sign a new contract with Real Madrid. The Gunners had been prepared to make a blockbuster offer for the Brazilian winger but now face the challenge of finding a replacement while also navigating their own defensive uncertainties. Lucas Digne is also expected to complete a move to PSG, adding further complexity to Villa’s defensive reshaping.

For Villa, the match against Bayern is an opportunity to fine-tune their preparations and showcase the depth of a squad in transition. With Konsa’s future still unresolved, the game takes on added importance as a chance to demonstrate resilience and cohesion ahead of the Premier League campaign. The Kai Tak Stadium will provide a fitting stage for this clash, offering a neutral but vibrant setting for a fixture that blends pre-season preparation with historical significance.

Whether Villa can extend their unbeaten record against Bayern remains to be seen, but the contest itself is a statement of intent—one that could shape the narrative of their season before it has even begun.
