Man Utd news: Michael Carrick issues transfer statement as Ibrahim Mbaye decision made

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has made clear his intention to strengthen the squad before the transfer window closes, as the club pursue a fourth new signing. With just three weeks remaining, United’s focus has shifted to left-backs, midfielders and forwards, while Carrick insists the club must keep pushing for improvements.

Carrick’s transfer stance: urgency amid ongoing links

Carrick has repeatedly stressed the need for more additions, stating: “We want more, we need more, we keep looking for how we can do that.” His comments follow United’s recent midfield rebuild, which brought in Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, alongside goalkeeper Karl Darlow. The manager acknowledged the difficulty of competing on multiple fronts but framed the challenge as essential to reigniting the club’s ambitions.

United’s interest in Paris Saint-Germain teenager Ibrahim Mbaye has been reported, with the 18-year-old winger attracting interest from several clubs. The Red Devils are not alone in monitoring the youngster, but Carrick’s public emphasis on squad depth suggests a willingness to act if the right profile emerges. The teenager’s potential arrival would add youth and pace to the attack, though his inexperience may limit immediate impact.

Left-back hunt intensifies as Hall talks stall

United’s primary target remains a left-back, with Newcastle unwilling to sell Lewis Hall. Reports indicate Carrick’s side are considering alternative options after failing to agree terms with the Magpies for the England international. With the window tightening, United may need to pivot to alternative options or accept a higher valuation on Hall, though the player’s own reluctance to leave Newcastle complicates matters.

Midfield remains a secondary priority, with Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton emerging as a candidate. Chelsea are also in the mix for the England international, with an £85 million offer expected to be required. United’s pursuit of Wharton reflects Carrick’s broader aim: securing players who can compete at the highest level without overpaying.

Osimhen interest surfaces as Arsenal and Spurs circle

Victor Osimhen has become a shared target for Manchester United, Tottenham and Arsenal, according to reports. The Nigeria striker’s availability has sparked internal discussions across three clubs, though Galatasaray’s valuation complicates any potential move. Liverpool’s pursuit of Bradley Barcola has also hit a snag, with PSG demanding £145 million—a figure the Reds are reluctant to meet.

Arsenal’s summer has been turbulent, with failed attempts to sign Vinícius Júnior and Julian Álvarez. Their focus now includes Ezri Konsa, a defender they hope to land before the deadline. Meanwhile, Manchester City’s recent activity in the market—including their pursuit of midfield reinforcements—highlights the relentless nature of the Premier League transfer window, where even mid-table clubs must move decisively to avoid falling behind.

Tactical clarity: Carrick’s midfield vision takes shape

Carrick’s midfield rebuild—featuring Santos and Tielemans—signals a preference for technical, progressive players who can dictate tempo. The addition of Darlow provides competition in goal, while the pursuit of a left-back suggests a desire to shore up defensive transitions. Mbaye’s potential arrival would add youth and pace, but his inexperience may limit immediate impact.

United’s transfer activity reflects a pragmatic approach: prioritise positions of need while avoiding overpaying for unproven talent. The club’s Champions League return next season adds urgency, but Carrick’s realism about recent history suggests a measured, rather than reckless, approach. With the window entering its final phase, Carrick’s message is unambiguous: United must keep pushing, but within the bounds of financial prudence. The coming days will determine whether the club can land their targets—or if they’ll need to recalibrate their ambitions once more.
