Raskin dropped for Rangers vs Jablonec LIVE!

Rangers have made a significant alteration to their starting XI for tonight’s UEFA Conference League qualifier against FK Jablonec, with midfielder John Raskin omitted from the matchday squad. The decision, confirmed by Sky Sports Premier League, marks a notable change in selection policy ahead of the first leg of the Conference League qualifying play-offs.

Why Raskin’s absence matters

The omission of Raskin, a midfielder for Rangers, suggests either a tactical shift or a management decision about squad rotation. While the club has not provided a reason for his exclusion, the move comes at a time when Rangers are preparing for European competition, where squad depth and tactical flexibility are often prioritised. The absence of a named explanation leaves room for interpretation—whether it reflects a strategic rotation, a fitness concern, or an unexpected tactical adjustment—but it is clear that the starting lineup will look different from recent domestic fixtures.

Rangers’ approach to this tie will be closely watched, particularly given the physical demands of Conference League football. The club’s recent performances have been scrutinised, and tonight’s selection hints at a broader strategy rather than an isolated decision. Whether this is a short-term adjustment or part of a longer-term plan remains to be seen, but the omission of a first-team regular indicates a willingness to make bold choices in high-pressure matches.

What comes next for Rangers

Tonight’s match is the UEFA Conference League qualifying play-offs, and Rangers will need to adapt quickly to the absence of Raskin. The team’s midfield dynamics could shift, with other players stepping into more prominent roles. The club’s ability to adjust on the fly will be tested, especially if the game becomes stretched, as the physical demands of European football often expose tactical vulnerabilities.

For Jablonec, the opportunity to exploit any disorganisation in Rangers’ setup is clear. The Czech side will be aware that a clean sheet in the first leg could give them a significant advantage ahead of the return fixture. Rangers, meanwhile, must ensure they do not concede early, as a deficit would force them to chase the game—a scenario that rarely ends favourably in knockout football.

Tactical implications

Rangers’ midfield structure is likely to look different without Raskin. His role in linking play and providing defensive cover may now fall to another player, potentially altering the team’s shape. The question is whether the adjustment will be seamless or if gaps will emerge under pressure, particularly against a Jablonec side that has shown resilience in previous European campaigns.

Jablonec, meanwhile, will be looking to press high and force mistakes. If Rangers struggle to control the tempo, the visitors could exploit spaces in transition. The first 20 minutes will be crucial—Rangers must settle quickly or risk falling behind, as early goals in knockout ties often dictate the narrative of the tie.

Tonight’s match is more than just a single game; it’s a test of Rangers’ depth and adaptability. The outcome could influence how the club approaches the rest of the season, particularly in balancing domestic and European commitments. As the match unfolds, all eyes will be on how Rangers respond to Raskin’s absence. The decision to leave him out was deliberate, and the players will need to deliver a performance that justifies the manager’s faith in their ability to adapt.
