Transfer news LIVE: Arsenal target Yildiz, Liverpool in Minteh bid, Spurs agree £85m Savinho deal

Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham are all in transfer motion this week, with the Premier League’s heavyweights making calculated moves to strengthen their squads before the new season. The underlying patterns reveal a clear strategy: Arsenal are prioritising wide forwards, Liverpool are chasing a direct replacement for Mohamed Salah, United are closing in on midfield reinforcements, and Spurs are finalising a blockbuster deal to reshape their attack.

Arsenal’s wide search intensifies with Yildiz in sights

Mikel Arteta has identified the left side of attack as a priority after missing out on Vinícius Júnior, and Juventus forward Kenan Yildiz has emerged as a key target. The Gunners have already agreed terms with Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa, but their recruitment team is now turning its attention to the 21-year-old Turkey international, who has impressed with his dribbling and creativity in Serie A. Yildiz’s profile fits Arteta’s system, offering a left-footed option who can stretch play and link up with the likes of Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard. Arsenal are also monitoring Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh, though Liverpool’s £50m bid for the Gambian winger has been rejected, adding urgency to Arsenal’s search for a direct replacement in wide areas.

Liverpool’s Salah succession plan takes shape

Liverpool have moved quickly to find a successor to Mohamed Salah, with Brighton rejecting a £50m bid for Minteh. The Reds are also in talks with Inter Milan over the sale of Curtis Jones, freeing up funds to pursue Bradley Barcola, though PSG’s valuation of £145m can’t yet be bridged. The uncertainty around Barcola’s future has not deterred Liverpool, who are exploring alternative routes to secure a direct replacement for their talismanic winger. The Reds’ approach reflects a broader trend in the Premier League, where clubs are prioritising profile over pure statistics when replacing departing icons. Minteh’s directness and Barcola’s technical ability both align with Liverpool’s preferred profile, but the financial and logistical hurdles remain significant.

Manchester United and Tottenham make bold midfield and attacking moves

Manchester United are closing in on Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba for over £60m, ending a pursuit that began last summer. The deal would bolster Erik ten Hag’s midfield options, providing competition for Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes. United’s willingness to meet Brighton’s valuation signals their intent to address a position that has lacked depth in recent seasons, particularly after the sale of Christian Eriksen. Meanwhile, Tottenham have agreed a deal to sign Savinho from Manchester City for an initial £75m, with Spurs also targeting Omar Marmoush. City, meanwhile, are eyeing Brazilian winger Allan as a potential replacement for Savinho, highlighting the fluid nature of this transfer window. Tottenham’s move for Savinho underscores their ambition to compete at the top of the table, while City’s search for a direct replacement shows their confidence in their squad depth.

Tactical implications and the road ahead

The transfer activity this week reveals a clear hierarchy in the Premier League’s recruitment strategies. Arsenal and Liverpool are both chasing wide forwards who can operate as inverted or direct threats, while United are prioritising midfield control and Spurs are reshaping their attack to fit Ange Postecoglou’s high-pressing system. The financial stakes are high, with valuations for top talent remaining inflated, but the clubs involved are showing a willingness to pay premiums for players who fit their tactical blueprints.

For Arsenal, the race to sign Yildiz or another wide forward could define their season. Liverpool’s pursuit of Minteh or Barcola is a high-risk, high-reward gamble that could either secure their future or leave them exposed. United’s Baleba deal, if completed, would address a long-standing weakness in midfield, while Tottenham’s Savinho move signals their intent to challenge for trophies. The deals agreed in the coming days could shape the title race, European ambitions, and even relegation battles for the 2024-25 season. With so much still to play for, the next 48 hours will be pivotal.
