Withtearsinmyeyes chases first success at Ffos Las

Friday’s racing calendar delivers three sharp, competitive cards across Ffos Las, Fontwell and Sedgefield, all live on Sky Sports Racing from 2.00pm. The headline act sits at Ffos Las, where Withtearsinmyeyes steps back into a mile contest in the 3.10pm Fillies’ Maiden Stakes—a race that looks tailor-made for improvement after three runner-up finishes in four starts.

Withtearsinmyeyes faces a stiff test in maiden decider

Jack Channon’s filly, a daughter of Invincible Spirit, has already shown she belongs among the best at this level, but she remains in search of her first victory. Her latest reverse came at Kempton on 17 August, where she finished second for the third time in four starts, yet the return to a mile trip should help her regroup. The field is small but testing: Graniteville, three lengths adrift at Kempton, carries the form to reverse that placing with Marco Botti and Benoit de la Sayette in her camp. Sydney Rock, Zupa Trupa and the rest of the field will do their best to complicate matters, but Withtearsinmyeyes’ consistency gives her the edge in what promises to be a tactical tussle.

Sedgefield’s handicap hurdle pits progressive types against seasoned campaigners

At Sedgefield, the 6.05pm Warm-Flo Hot To Trot Handicap Hurdle features a clash between upwardly mobile sorts and proven performers. Saint Polo, a Jennie Candlish trainee, doubled his hurdle tally with a clear win at Newton Abbot on 21 June and returns off a break in search of further progress. Jamie Snowden’s Machete Beach, top-weight in the field, was narrowly beaten at Uttoxeter on 9 August and should relish the step up into handicaps this autumn. Jolie Coeur Allen and Scots Poet complete the shortlist, but the race will turn on whether Saint Polo can kick on from his Newton Abbot form or whether Machete Beach’s handicap debut brings fresh impetus.

Fontwell’s chase card tests French import Martin’s Denuo

Over at Fontwell, Martin’s Denuo bids for a fourth consecutive victory in the 7.00pm Free Tips Daily On attheraces.com Handicap Chase. The four-year-old, now in the yard of David Pipe, arrives after a red-hot spell in France and must prove himself in a handicap debut under Rian Corcoran. A Little Something, previously in fine fettle before unseating at Worcester on 12 August, will carry confidence into the race, while Faye Bramley’s Person Of Interest has been a consistent performer in recent weeks. The card looks stacked with in-form types, but Martin’s Denuo’s momentum makes him the one to beat.

The day’s racing offers punters a chance to see horses at different stages of their development: Withtearsinmyeyes chasing her breakthrough, Saint Polo and Machete Beach stepping up in class, and Martin’s Denuo facing his sternest test yet. Each race carries its own narrative, but the common thread is progression—whether from maiden to winner, handicap debut to victory, or form reversal to confirmation. Sky Sports Racing’s coverage begins at 2.00pm, and the best stories may yet unfold in the final furlongs.
